Miracle upon Miracle For Years and Years and Miles upon Miles.

How do we know that God's plan works? Well, the evidence is in the church itself. It's easy to get despondent if we hear of a failing church, but we also have to remember that every Christian and every person who has ever said that they follow Jesus' teaching have been influenced by God's Holy Spirit.

Extraordinary? Yes, because there were only a handful of disciples to begin with and it all started with the sacrifice of just one man. A miracle, yes because there…

A Shoulder to Lean On

Lord, my friends are few

and far between,

but I have You

and on Yourself I lean

when times are tough,

the going rough,

when folks are cruel,

when I feel a fool,

when I fall down,…

COMPASSIONATE HEARTS OF JESUS AND MARY

Many of us are aware of the presence of hate, fear, bigotry and anger in our society – and see a growing lack of compassion, not least for those who some perceive ‘don’t belong’.   And we might even be aware of the way these feelings can begin to fill our own hearts.  It’s not always a virtue that’s easy to express – or cultivate.

If you sense that we need to be more compassionate towards each other you might be interested in a new international, ecumenical, online Spiritual…

Old Spring Lamb

I've a spring in my step today,

I sing, I thank, I pray,

I'm filled with joy because I'm saved,

Not downhearted and grey,

Not lonely, cheerless and cold,

Just peaceful, like, within my soul,

My Saviour's grace I can behold.

The cross I carry feels much lighter,

Than the heavy load I sometimes bear,

Others come alongside

And the weight of weighty burdens share;

It's nice to feel encouraged,

It's nice to have a…

The Superiority Of Theism Part 3: Unbelief's Defiance Of Common Sense

According to Geisler and Turek, a number of scientific discoveries come down on the side of the cosmological proof rather than the steady state hypothesis. To assist in remembering what these are, the authors have provided the acronym SURGE.

S” stands for the Second Law of Thermodynamics. The Laws of Thermodynamics stipulate that, within the universe, there…

The Superiority Of Theism Part 2: The Refutation Of Unbelief

Portraying themselves as erudite and sophisticated, the the co-called "cultured despisers of religion" attempt to trip up Christianity right out of the starting gate. Fortunately, Geisler and Turek provide the equivalent of intellectual judo in the form of a number of easily-mastered tactics that can deflect and even redirect the attacks of even the most degreed skeptics.

Foremost among these is the Road Runner Tactic. Named after the famous Looney Tune character, the Road Runner…

The Superiority Of Theism Part 1: Worldview Comparisons

Though things change dramatically as the years and centuries unfold with the average person enjoying luxuries now that even the bards of old couldn’t have devised for the Homeric pantheon, some of mankind's most basic aspirations and perplexities have remained constant throughout the course of history. Even though he said it dismissively in an attempt to assuage his own conscience, Pontius Pilate’s exclamation of “What is truth?” rings as true today as it did in the time of the Roman… Continue

Christmas Presents

My family celebrated Christmas on the 11th December, my son's birthday, as he's working over the Christmas period.  As my two are now grown up I find it difficult to know what sort of presents to give them apart from money, so these days it's toiletries and a few tales.  Here are two we shared this "Christmas" ...

I was about 8 years old and Christmas 1968 was approaching slowly.  Our class teacher, Mrs Witherington, was telling us a story about two presents she had received as a…

Rest in Peace Lynda Bellingham

I just heard the very sad news that Lynda Bellingham had died following her struggle with cancer.  I was watching her delivering the Night Prayer last night and thinking what a lovely woman she was, strong in faith.

God bless you Lynda.  I know you are now safe and free from pain, xx

The Poor Orphan Child

I was reading Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte, this poem is just before Jane goes to Lowood House, the orphanage in the story. It reminded me of Psalm 27 verse 10: When my father and my mother forsake me, then the LORD will take me up. My feet they…
